Neighborhood EV Charging, Powered by Surplus Solar

Your neighbor has solar panels producing more energy than they need. You have an EV that needs charging. VoltShare connects you.

Live in SF Bay Area Next: LA Soon: Portland
Simple for everyone

Solar homeowners share surplus energy. EV drivers charge for less. The planet wins.

1

Host Shares Solar

Homeowners list their EV charger, powered by surplus solar energy they'd otherwise send back to the grid for pennies.

2

Driver Books Station

EV drivers find a nearby host, reserve a time slot, and plug in for a solar-powered charge.

3

Everyone Benefits

Hosts earn from wasted energy. Drivers charge for less than public stations. 100% clean, 100% local.

Whether you charge or share
☀️

Founding Hosts

You have solar panels and a charger. Most days you produce more energy than you use. Instead of selling it back to PG&E for 2-4 cents, share it with a neighbor at a fair price.

Who It's For

Real problems. Real people.

VoltShare is being built for EV drivers who need convenient, affordable charging and solar homeowners who want more from their surplus energy.

Maya

Walnut Creek, CA

EV Driver

Maya drives a Tesla Model 3 and loves it — except the part where she lives in an apartment with no home charger. Public stations near her building are rarely open after work. She just wants a reliable spot she can count on.

Fictional scenario

Daniel

San Ramon, CA

EV Driver

Daniel just switched to his first EV and quickly learned that renting a townhouse means no Level 2 charger. Hunting for an open public station on a Tuesday night was not what he signed up for.

Fictional scenario

Elena

Pleasanton, CA

EV Driver

Between school pickups, soccer practice, and work, Elena doesn't have time to babysit a slow charger at a mall parking lot. She needs charging that fits her schedule — close to home, predictable, and easy.

Fictional scenario

Chris

Danville, CA

Solar Host

Chris put solar on his roof two years ago and generates more than he uses most days. The utility buys back his surplus at a fraction of what he pays per kilowatt. He'd much rather sell it to a neighbor for a fair rate.

Fictional scenario

Priya

Lafayette, CA

Solar Host

Priya already has solar, an EV, and a Level 2 charger in her garage — and her system produces more than the household ever uses. Sharing that surplus with someone nearby just makes sense.

Common questions
How does VoltShare work? +

Solar homeowners share their surplus energy by listing their EV charger on VoltShare. EV drivers find a nearby host, plug in, and charge for $5 per 30 minutes. Simple, local, clean.

What if I don't have a Tesla? +

All EVs are welcome. Most hosts have a Tesla Wall Connector, but a J1772 adapter makes it compatible with any EV. Some hosts also have Level 2 J1772 chargers natively.

How do hosts get paid? +

During the pilot, payments are handled directly between host and driver (Venmo, Zelle, or cash). Hosts keep 100% of what they earn. No platform fees during early access.

Is this legal? +

Yes. You're sharing energy from your solar system through your existing charger. This is peer-to-peer energy sharing, not utility resale. You set your own terms.

Where is VoltShare available? +

We're starting in the San Francisco Bay Area. Los Angeles and Portland are next. Sign up to get notified when we reach your area.

What does "early access" mean? +

You're joining VoltShare during the founding phase. Early members help shape the product, give feedback, and get first access as we expand. Founding hosts and drivers are the backbone of the network.
